Job Description

HGV Driver (ADR Qualified) - Generator Delivery

Job Title

HGV Driver (Class 1/Class 2) - ADR Qualified

Transport Manager

Location

Multi-site UK coverage with travel to customer locations nationwide.

Job Purpose

To safely transport, deliver, position, collect and assist with the deployment of generators, fuel tanks and associated power equipment to customer sites across the UK. The role requires full compliance with ADR regulations, DVSA requirements, company policies and customer site safety procedures whilst delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Operations

  • Operate HGV Class 1 and/or Class 2 vehicles in accordance with all road transport legislation.
  • Conduct daily vehicle defect inspections and complete all required vehicle checks.
  • Ensure vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness are maintained at all times.
  • Accurately complete digital or paper transport documentation.
  • Report defects, incidents and accidents immediately through company procedures.

Generator and Equipment Deliveries

  • Deliver and collect generators, fuel tanks, batteries, distribution equipment and associated accessories.
  • Position generators safely on customer sites using vehicle-mounted lifting equipment where authorised.
  • Assist engineers and depot teams with generator loading, unloading and securing.
  • Ensure equipment is safely restrained and transported in accordance with company procedures.
  • Obtain customer signatures and complete proof of delivery documentation.

ADR Compliance

  • Transport hazardous goods in accordance with ADR regulations.
  • Carry and maintain all required ADR documentation and equipment.
  • Ensure correct labelling, placarding and segregation of hazardous materials.
  • Conduct ADR vehicle and load inspections before departure.
  • Maintain current ADR certification and participate in refresher training.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all Health & Safety, Environmental and Road Transport legislation.
  • Follow customer site induction and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Wear appropriate PPE and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings and compliance audits.
  • Report near misses, hazards and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Support company compliance initiatives including driver CPC requirements.

Customer Service

  • Act as a professional ambassador for the business.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding delivery schedules and site requirements.
  • Resolve minor site issues professionally and escalate where necessary.
  • Maintain high standards of presentation, behaviour and customer interaction.

Operational Support

  • Assist depot operations when not driving, including yard organisation and equipment preparation.
  • Support emergency call-outs and out-of-hours deliveries when required.
  • Work collaboratively with transport, operations, engineering and customer service teams.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • HGV Class 1 (C+E) and/or Class 2 (Category C) licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification.
  • Digital Tachograph Card.
  • ADR Licence, including tanks and packaged goods where applicable.
  • Minimum 2 years HGV driving experience.
  • Experience delivering plant, power generation equipment or heavy machinery.
  • Good understanding of driver hours regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of load securing procedures.

  • Early starts, late finishes and occasional weekend working as operationally required.

Salary Band

Competitive salary plus overtime, overnight allowance, bonus opportunities and company benefits package.
