HGV Driver – 3 Month Contract

Location: Eastcroft Depot

Rate: £20.21 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract: 3 Month Contract

Hours: Full Time

Pay: Bi-weekly

Summary

We are looking for a skilled HGV Driver to become part of our dynamic team at Eastcroft Depot. This position is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of heavy goods vehicles, supporting essential environmental and operational services. The role includes conducting daily vehicle inspections, leading a small team when necessary, adhering to health and safety standards, and delivering exceptional customer service while representing the Council. Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate HGV vehicles in compliance with road traffic laws.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and safety assessments.
  • Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and meet all legal standards.
  • Supervise and guide a small operational team on assigned routes.
  • Provide clear instructions and support to team members for efficient service delivery.
  • Utilize in-cab technology and software to document completed work, incidents, and operational data.
  • Promptly report any vehicle defects, incidents, or health and safety issues.
  • Deliver services according to operational schedules and performance targets.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.
  • Engage positively with the public and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Adapt to service demands, including occasional evening and weekend work if needed.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Valid Category C (HGV Class 2) Driving Licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC (Driver Qualification Card).
  • Proven experience in operating HGV vehicles safely in a professional setting.
  • Experience in conducting vehicle safety inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Health & Safety procedures
    • Road Safety
    • Safe Working Practices
  • Experience in supervising or leading a small team.
  • Proficiency in using in-cab technology and electronic recording systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and operational needs.
  • Dedication to delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining professional standards.

PPE Requirements

Candidates must supply the following PPE:

  • Orange Hi-Vis Trousers
  • Orange Hi-Vis T-Shirt
  • Orange Hi-Vis Jumper
  • Orange Hi-Vis Coat
  • Orange Hi-Vis Waterproofs (for wet weather)

Boots and gloves will be provided by the client.
