About Us

R S Cockerill is a family business located in Dunnington, near York. We supply fresh potatoes to supermarkets and processing potatoes to major crisp manufacturers. Our operations span the entire potato supply chain, from delivering seed potatoes to farms to distributing the finished product to our customers. Our own transport division supports all this activity with 15 articulated units and 90 trailers, including flat trailers, root crop bulkers, curtainsiders, and insulated vans.

Job Role

Reporting to the Transport Manager, we are looking for an HGV Driver with various shifts available, including weekend work. There are opportunities for additional days when required.

  • Fleet: We operate modern DAF and Renault tractor units using the latest truck technology, always with driver comfort and safety in mind.
  • Maintenance: We have a regular programme of reinvestment in trailers, all backed up by a robust preventative maintenance programme overseen by our own HGV Workshop.

Job Requirements

We are looking for HGV Drivers with:

  • Qualifications: Full UK driving licence and HGV C+E licence (Class 1).
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience on articulated trucks.
  • Commitment: Prepared to spend nights out.
  • Legal Compliance: Driver CPC qualification, Digital Tachograph Card, and preparedness to work within all the legal parameters of drivers' hours legislation.
  • Safety: Drive carefully and safely, mindful that they are ambassadors for the business.
  • Communication: Good level of communication skills, work as part of a team, with the ability to understand and share verbal instruction in English.
  • Flexibility: A willingness to work variable hours and be flexible to the needs of the business.
  • Health & Safety: Show full co-operation and awareness of company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Attitude: Have a positive and enthusiastic can-do attitude.

What We Offer

  • Earnings Potential: Approximately +£40k/year for the right candidate depending upon shift pattern, hourly paid (weekly).
