Role Description
The HGV Mechanic role at OCVS is a full-time, on-site position based in Trafford Park. The HGV Mechanic will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with relevant regulations.
Day-to-day tasks include:
- Performing routine servicing
- Carrying out mechanical and electrical fault-finding
- Completing MOT preparation work
- Conducting post-repair testing
The role also involves:
- Maintaining accurate service records
- Following health and safety procedures
- Working closely with colleagues to minimize vehicle downtime

Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience as an HGV Mechanic or Technician, with strong skills in vehicle inspection, servicing, and repair.
- Competence in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on heavy goods vehicles using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of HGV safety standards, MOT requirements, and relevant transport regulations, with a commitment to safe working practices.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, service documentation, and work orders, and to maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Recognized vocational or technical qualification in vehicle maintenance, automotive engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Valid HGV driving license is highly beneficial, along with experience working in a workshop or fleet maintenance environment.
