Role Overview: HGV Technician

Shift Pattern

4-on, 4-off (12-hour shifts)

Salary Breakdown

  • Days: £43,000
  • Split Shift (Days & Nights): £48,000
  • Nights: £51,000

Key Responsibilities (HOVIS Vehicle Services Specification)

  • Servicing & Maintenance: Perform routine servicing, safety inspections, and preventative maintenance across the fleet (e.g., 16T DAF, 7.2T Iveco Daily, and larger distribution units).
  • Diagnostics: Perform mechanical and electrical fault-finding using commercial diagnostic tools (e.g., Texa systems).
  • MOT & Safety Inspections: Prepare commercial vehicles and trailers to DVSA standards for MOT testing.
  • Ancillary Maintenance: Inspect, service, and repair tail lifts, shutter doors, and bodywork components.
  • Compliance & Records: Ensure all vehicle defect reports, job cards, and maintenance logs meet strict road safety and DVSA compliance standards.

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds / equivalent qualification) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

Preferred (Not Essential)

  • Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (C) driving licence.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities on commercial vehicles.
  • Familiarity with DVSA inspection guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively on a 12-hour 4-on, 4-off rota.
