Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site HGV Technician role based at the Castleford depot. The HGV Technician will carry out routine maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on Volvo trucks, buses, and trailers in line with manufacturer and industry standards. Daily tasks include identifying faults, completing scheduled services, performing mechanical and electrical repairs, and ensuring all work is documented accurately. The role involves working with workshop colleagues to prioritize jobs, maintain a safe and clean working environment, and deliver high levels of customer service. The technician may also assist with breakdowns, conduct pre-MOT checks, and support continuous improvement in workshop processes.

  • Strong HGV mechanical and electrical skills, including diagnostics, servicing, and repair of trucks, buses, and trailers.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively, with sound fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of vehicle safety, compliance, and inspection standards (including MOT preparation and DVSA requirements).
  • Relevant technical qualification, such as NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a commercial vehicle workshop or dealership environment, ideally with Volvo products or similar brands.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow procedures and complete accurate service and repair documentation.
  • High attention to detail, reliable time management, and a commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Valid UK driving licence; an HGV class licence would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training and professional development to keep skills and knowledge up to date.
