Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site HGV Technician role based in Weston-Super-Mare. The HGV Technician will carry out routine servicing, inspections, and maintenance of heavy goods vehicles and plant to ensure roadworthiness, reliability, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. The role involves:

  • Maintaining accurate service and repair records
  • Working closely with operations teams to minimize downtime
  • Following all company health, safety, and environmental procedures

The HGV Technician will also:

  • Support continuous improvement of the fleet
  • Contribute to a tidy and safe workshop environment
  • Occasionally respond to breakdowns or call-outs as required

Qualifications

  • Strong HGV maintenance and repair skills, including experience with inspections, servicing, diagnostics, and fault-finding on heavy goods vehicles.
  • Proficiency with workshop tools, equipment, and relevant vehicle diagnostic systems, with a focus on safety and quality standards.
  • Sound understanding of vehicle safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements (e.g., MOT standards, roadworthiness, and environmental regulations).
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to work methodically under time constraints.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with drivers, operations staff, and management.
  • Relevant technical qualification in vehicle maintenance (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair) or substantial equivalent experience.
  • Valid HGV licence (C or C+E) is highly beneficial; experience in a municipal, waste, or environmental services fleet is an advantage.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practices, aligned with NSEC’s ESG-focused values.
