Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

  • Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Complete all repairs to manufacturer, DVSA, and Company standards.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a "Right First Time" standard.
  • Prepare and submit vehicles to a standard appropriate for the issuing of annual test certificates and MOT compliance.
  • Support roadside breakdown and emergency repair activities where required.
  • Contribute towards effective preventative maintenance programmes to maximise fleet reliability and minimise downtime.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all service, maintenance, inspection, and repair documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Accurately complete job sheets and record labour times against work completed.
  • Correctly record and account for all parts used during repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all vehicle inspections are completed in accordance with company and legal requirements.
  • Maintain auditable records to support compliance with DVSA and company maintenance standards.

Workshop Operations

  • Manage individual workload effectively and prioritise work assignments in conjunction with Workshop Management.
  • Communicate proactively with the Workshop Foreman or Manager regarding work in progress, delays, additional repairs required, and vehicle status.
  • Use workshop equipment, tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintain workshop housekeeping standards and ensure work areas remain clean, organised, and safe.
  • Supply and maintain personal tools as specified by the Company.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all Company Health & Safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
  • Wear and maintain appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the workshop environment.

Continuous Improvement & Development

  • Ensure technical knowledge remains current with developments in vehicle technology, diagnostics, legislation, and industry best practice.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Support apprentices and less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workshop efficiency, fleet reliability, and service delivery.

Safety & Compliance

  • Achievement of 100% scheduled vehicle inspections.
  • Compliance with Petit Forestier maintenance procedures and standards.
  • Support of MOT/annual test first-time pass rates.
  • Accurate completion of service and inspection documentation.
  • Adherence to Health & Safety requirements with zero preventable incidents.

Quality

  • High "Right First Time" completion rates.
  • High first-time fix rates.
  • Low levels of repeat repairs and vehicle returns.
  • Consistent quality of workmanship and technical accuracy.

Productivity & Efficiency

  • Achievement of individual productivity, efficiency, and utilisation targets.
  • Effective management of allocated workload.
  • Timely completion of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Accurate recording of labour times and parts usage.

Fleet Performance

  • Contribution towards fleet availability targets.
  • Reduction in vehicle downtime through effective diagnosis and preventative maintenance.
  • Support of vehicle reliability and asset longevity.

Skills, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle mechanics and electrical systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (HGV entitlement desirable).
  • Relevant technical qualifications in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Apprenticeship training as a Commercial Vehicle Technician/Fitter or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience within a commercial vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance requirements, inspection standards, and repair procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-diagnosis skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and time management capability.
  • City & Guilds Level 1 and 2, NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.

  • HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
  • IRTEC accreditation.
  • Knowledge of transport refrigeration systems.
  • Refrigeration maintenance and repair experience.
  • Experience of training or mentoring apprentices.
  • Knowledge of the transportation and logistics industry.
  • Strong PC literacy and workshop management system experience.
  • Experience working with temperature-controlled commercial vehicle fleets
