HGV Mechanic – 3 Month Contract

Location: Eastcroft Depot, Nottingham
Rate: £35.50 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 3 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Immediate Start Available
Pay: Bi-weekly

Summary

Join our dynamic Fleet Services team as an experienced HGV Mechanic, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining a diverse range of vehicles, including HGVs, light commercial vehicles, municipal vehicles, plant, and electric/hybrid vehicles. This position offers a fantastic opportunity for a qualified mechanic with excellent diagnostic and repair skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of essential frontline services.

Responsibilities

  • Service, inspect, maintain, and repair HGVs and council fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical faults.
  • Conduct scheduled servicing and safety inspections.
  • Prepare, present, and accompany vehicles for MOT testing and DVSA inspections.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and bodywork repairs.
  • Maintain and repair electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and accident damage repairs.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records using fleet management systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with DVSA standards, Operator Licence requirements, and health & safety regulations.
  • Support apprentices and promote a right-first-time approach within the workshop.

Requirements

  • Required:
    • City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Motor Vehicle Engineering (or equivalent qualification covering MOT inspection standards).
    • Full UK Driving Licence with Category C entitlement.
    • DVSA Inspection & Testing Qualification.
    • Experience in servicing and repairing HGVs and light commercial vehicles.
    • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and vehicle electrical systems.
    • Experience in conducting vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Good record-keeping and communication skills.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working on municipal or specialist fleet vehicles.
    • Electric or Hybrid Vehicle Qualification (IMI Level 3 or equivalent).
    • Welding and fabrication experience.
    • Local Authority or fleet maintenance workshop experience.
