HGV Technician Supervisor – Lead the Workshop Team
Technician Supervisor, HGV – Volvo Truck & Bus (Wilstead, Bedford)
Salary up to £24 per hour + overtime!
- Working a rotating shift pattern 0600hrs to 1430hrs/1430hrs to 2300hrs
- 1 in 4 Saturdays @ overtime (time and a half), 0700hrs to 1200hrs
We’re looking for a hands-on Technician Supervisor to keep our workshop running smoothly and our customers on the road.

- Working closely with the team in order to create high levels of morale and focus to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and with excellence in quality.
- Effective communication with the Workshop Controller and CSR’s to ensure that technicians have valid job specifications and time budget prior to work commencing. Ensuring that customer expectations are managed at all times by working with each stage of the Genuine Volvo Service process.
- Maximising the shifts performance through effective problem solving, coaching & development

- HGV Licence
- Electrics Level 1 & 2
- E-Mobility Training (future-focused EV systems)
- Oscilloscope Diagnostics Training
- Technicians are trained to a minimum Volvo Bronze Level
- Opportunities to progress to Silver, and Gold Level accreditation
Who are you?
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
- Workshop experience – ideally in trucks/buses – with some supervisory know-how.
- A strong communicator who can get the best out of a team.
- Organised, proactive, and customer-focused.
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence a big plus)
- To be able to manage and motivate a team of technicians in their daily activities
- To be able to effectively communicate at all levels both written and verbally
- To be able to work in an organised & methodical manner ensuring that all daily tasks are completed
- To be able to delegate work to the appropriate personnel
- To be able to operate GDS and Impact systems, specific to the GVS process stages
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
The role
- Supervise and support a team of HGV Technicians within the workshop.
- Allocate and prioritise work to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on time.
- Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
- Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and company standards.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety and workshop housekeeping.
- Carry out quality checks and ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy before release.
- Diagnose and assist with complex technical issues when required.
- Monitor workshop productivity, efficiency and job progress.
- Liaise with service advisors, transport operators, customers and other departments.
- Support technician training, development and performance.
- Ensure all relevant paperwork, job cards and maintenance records are completed accurately.
- Promote a positive, professional and safety-focused workshop environment.
