HGV Workshop Controller

Salary: £51,500 per annum
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off – Days
Contract: Permanent

The successful candidate will have previous experience working as a Workshop Controller within an HGV workshop environment and will be confident managing a large team and overseeing the day-to-day running of a busy workshop.

This is an off-the-tools management position, so previous Workshop Controller or equivalent workshop management experience is essential. You will have a strong technical background, having previously worked on the tools as an HGV Technician, and will hold a Level 3 HGV qualification. Experience within an HGV main dealer / dealer environment would be highly desirable.

The Role

As HGV Workshop Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop, leading and supporting a team of up to 20 members of staff. This is a fully off-the-tools position, focused on managing people, workflow and workshop performance while ensuring high standards of safety, quality and customer service are maintained.

  • Managing, supporting and motivating a team of up to 20 workshop staff
  • Coordinating daily workshop activities and allocating work efficiently
  • Ensuring vehicles are maintained and repaired to a high standard
  • Monitoring workshop productivity, quality and performance
  • Ensuring health & safety and company procedures are followed
  • Supporting the development and training of workshop staff
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure efficient workshop operations
  • Managing workload and priorities to meet operational requirements
  • Providing technical guidance and leadership when required
  • Driving continuous improvement across the workshop

About You

We are looking for someone who has come from the tools themselves and understands the demands of working within an HGV workshop. You will have:

  • A Level 3 qualification in HGV / Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
  • Previous experience as an HGV Technician / Mechanic
  • Proven experience within a busy HGV workshop environment
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • The ability to manage and motivate a large team
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A strong understanding of workshop processes and standards
  • Ideally, previous experience working within an HGV main dealer / dealer environment
  • A genuine desire to develop and progress within a management role
