Summary of Role

We are seeking a professional, reliable and safety-conscious Newly Qualified HGV 2 Drivers to join our customers Transport team at their Letchworth Distribution Centre.

As an HGV 2 Driver, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of medicines, healthcare products and associated goods to customers across the Alliance Healthcare network. You will be responsible for completing deliveries accurately, safely and on time, while maintaining high standards of customer service and complying with all transport, health and safety, pharmaceutical distribution and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, reliability and customer service and will be comfortable working independently while maintaining effective communication with colleagues and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out deliveries of pharmaceutical, healthcare and associated products to customers safely, accurately and within agreed delivery times.
  • Ensure all products and associated documentation are handled correctly throughout the delivery process.
  • Complete daily vehicle safety and roadworthiness checks in accordance with company procedures.
  • Report vehicle defects, breakdowns, accidents, delays and other incidents promptly to the appropriate team.
  • Comply with all relevant driving legislation, tachograph requirements, drivers’ hours and statutory rest periods.
  • Ensure deliveries are completed in accordance with company procedures and that proof of delivery documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Collect customer returns and other goods as instructed by the Transport team.
  • Maintain the security, cleanliness and good condition of the vehicle at all times.
  • Follow all company procedures relating to the secure transportation and handling of pharmaceutical and healthcare products.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous approach when dealing with customers and members of the public.
  • Build positive working relationships with customers, Transport colleagues and other departments.
  • Ensure any delivery discrepancies, damaged goods or customer issues are reported promptly and accurately.
  • Support the wider Transport operation as required to maintain efficient service delivery.
  • Work in accordance with the company health, safety, quality and compliance standards at all times.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Valid LGV/HGV driving licence appropriate to the vehicle being operated.
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification and Driver Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Good understanding of UK road safety legislation, drivers’ hours and tachograph regulations.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and compliance.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer-focused approach with the ability to deal professionally with customers.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities and use initiative.
  • Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to work.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and work within a regulated environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within a pharmaceutical, healthcare, logistics or distribution environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements.
  • Experience delivering to pharmacies, hospitals, healthcare providers or other regulated customers.
  • Previous experience using electronic Proof of Delivery (ePOD) systems.
  • Experience with route planning and delivery scheduling.
  • Experience completing vehicle inspection and defect reporting records.
  • Knowledge of transport compliance and fleet management procedures.
  • Experience handling customer returns and delivery discrepancies.
  • Previous experience working within a safety-critical or highly regulated environment.
