40 hours per week
Rotating shifts:
05:00 to 14:00
14:00 to 23:00
Including weekends and bank holidays as rostered.
HOURLY PAY RATE:
£17.00 Per Hour
ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
You will be required to drive airside and safely operate the Hi-Lift Ambulance vehicle during passenger transfer operations at London Heathrow Airport.
The role consists of two key functions:
- Fixed rostered shifts providing a rapid response service to medical emergencies and urgent passenger assistance requests on board aircraft and within the airport environment.
- Additional ad-hoc shifts supporting pre-planned stretcher passenger transfers between aircraft and terminal facilities.
This position will involve operating specialist Hi-Lift Ambulance vehicles, assisting passengers requiring medical assistance, and undertaking manual handling activities.
Working as part of the team, you will deliver a safe, professional and compassionate service to airlines, airport stakeholders, healthcare providers and passengers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to on-board aircraft medical emergencies and urgent passenger assistance requests.
- Safely operate Hi-Lift Ambulance vehicles in accordance with Heathrow Airport regulations and company procedures.
- Ensure all health and safety requirements are in place before positioning the Hi-Lift vehicle against an aircraft.
- Assist with the safe boarding and disembarkation of passengers requiring medical assistance.
- Support the transfer of stretcher passengers, accompanying relatives and medical escort teams.
- Work closely with fellow Hi-Lift Drivers, Team Leaders, airlines, handling agents and airport stakeholders.
- Ensure the Hi-Lift vehicle departs aircraft stands safely and in a serviceable condition.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections and report defects promptly.
- Complete operational records and documentation accurately.
- Report incidents, hazards, near misses and equipment defects in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, customer care and passenger dignity at all times.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- You must be able to understand the English language to adhere to company notices, staff briefings and individual instructions provided to you, which will affect your working duties.
- Self-motivated and reliable with a conscientious approach to the safety and security aspects of your role.
- Flexible approach to work and able to work efficiently and thoroughly with minimal supervision.
- Able to cope with a pressured operational environment.
- Excellent team player.
- Excellent time management.
- Professional and courteous approach towards passengers, airline staff and airport stakeholders.
Essential
- A current, valid, full clean UK Driving Licence with D1 entitlement.
- Previous airside driving experience.
- Knowledge of Heathrow Airport operations.
- Familiarity with airline ground handling operations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Heathrow Airport Airside Driving Permit.
- Ability to work rotating shifts between 05:00-14:00 and 14:00-23:00.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to undertake manual handling activities safely.
- Professional and customer-focused approach.
- Self-motivated and reliable with a conscientious approach to safety and security.
- Excellent team player.
- Excellent time management.
- Ability to work efficiently and thoroughly with minimal supervision.
- Ability to cope within a pressured operational environment.

Desirable
- Previous experience operating ambulances, PSVs, Hi-Lift vehicles or other specialist vehicles.
- Experience working within aviation, healthcare, patient transport or airport operations.
- Previous experience assisting passengers with reduced mobility or stretcher patients.
