Job Overview

We are recruiting to permanent High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist posts in Hillingdon Talking Therapies. We wish to invite applications from qualified and qualifying CBT therapists who are enthusiastic, committed and want to develop their clinical skills within an experienced and friendly team.

We will require the postholders to work on site in Uxbridge and or Northwood two days a week, including one evening to 7pm. Parking is not available on site but the base is close to public parking and transport links.

You would join a diverse and innovative team that focusses on developing clinical, supervisory, leadership and management skills for staff, and have great CPD and support.

You will receive excellent and supportive supervision from BABCP accredited CBT therapists in the service and offered CPD opportunities.

Our Ethnic, Diverse and Inclusive service focus includes reflective practice and we hold monthly reflective practice groups for CBT therapists. Staff wellbeing and compassionate leadership are priorities in our service, with a focus on clinical skills and development.

Main duties of the job

Applicants for this position will provide service-wide assessments, CBT assessment for treatment and treatment interventions at step 3 of the service and also attend team meetings and training. The role is partly-remotely based, which means that there will be a requirement to demonstrate experience of, and work effectively, via telephone or video.

As an NHS Talking Therapies service, we provide Low intensity and High Intensity psychological therapies within a stepped care model at steps 2 and 3. Our team has Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and High Intensity Counsellors providing a range of modality interventions, as well as Assistant Psychologists and trainees, and a supportive administrative team.

We are looking for applicants who have enthusiasm for working in a primary care setting, who are adaptable, enjoy variety, and working independently as well as within a team context.

In order to be shortlisted for this post, applicants must be BABCP fully or provisionally accredited or have attended a BABCP accredited CBT training course.

Working for our organisation

Our service is part of the CNWL NHS Foundation Trust with the Hillingdon NHS Talking Therapies clinical service based in central Uxbridge in Greater London with good public transport and road links to central London and outside the M25.

Our service currently works a mix of site and remote working, however this is guided by patient need and may change over time, so there is no fixed division of site and home work. CNWL operates a flexible working policy to support staff with a good work / life balance.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

You will be expected to participate in extended hours clinics offered by the service which include early morning and late evening clinics from 8.00 am to 7.00 pm on a weekly basis as a minimum.

You will receive regular supervision and support from a BABCP Accredited Senior Clinician as well as benefit from peer support and guidance from other team members. The CNWL Talking Therapies Hillingdon Service has close links with Talking Therapies teams within CNWL and there are opportunities for further development in our service.

Education And Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Must be fully or provisionally accredited with the BABCP or have completed a BABCP accredited high intensity CBT course or diploma programme.
  • Substantial specialist knowledge, theory and skills of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy acquired through diploma / degrees with BABCP accreditation.
  • Critical understanding of the relevance of studies of human development, psychopathology, psychology, social issues and evidence based practice.

Desirable criteria

  • Qualified/Registered Mental Health Professional

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in an IAPT service or other primary care setting.
  • Experience of specialist cognitive-behavioural psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment of adult patients in a mental health setting and presenting with problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Specialist experience acquired through having conducted substantial hours of supervised assessment and therapy during training.
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision.
  • Experience of delivering assessments and treatments remotely via video platforms.

Desirable criteria

  • Specialist psychotherapeutic working experience.
  • Experience of the application of psychotherapy in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of working within a primary care/community setting.
  • Research skills and knowledge and aptitude.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Skills in the use of methods of cognitive behavioural therapy assessment, intervention and management including the use of theoretical models to analyse information and to develop formulations upon which to base treatment.
  • Ability to work as a lone practitioner. To plan, organise and prioritise own work and patient caseload.
  • Excellent IT and digital skills eg use of patient electronic databases, use of video platforms for patient work.
  • Ability to record, monitor and report on clinical information as required.
  • Skills in working in multidisciplinary settings.

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to provide a culturally-competent and non-stigmatising service.
  • Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and able to hold the stress of others.
