HPC Architect Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an HPC Architect to join a department to assist with the design, development, and evolution of high-performance computing infrastructure within a complex engineering environment.
This role performs the duties of HPC architecture, infrastructure strategy, and system oversight, and reports to the senior leadership team within the Information Management function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and deliver the long-term HPC architecture roadmap aligned with organisational objectives
- Architect large-scale HPC environments including CPU, GPU, and accelerator-based systems
- Design and optimise high-performance networking solutions (InfiniBand, RDMA, high-speed Ethernet)
- Develop scalable storage architectures including parallel file systems, object storage, and tiered storage
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to engineering and operations teams
- Lead performance benchmarking, capacity planning, and workload modelling activities
- Identify and resolve system bottlenecks to ensure optimal throughput and scalability
- Establish standards, reference architectures, and best practices across HPC environments
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to align infrastructure with evolving business needs
- Support the development of workload orchestration strategies using tools such as SLURM and Kubernetes

The Ideal Candidate:
Would have:
- Strong background in high-performance computing environments and infrastructure design
- Experience working with open-source technologies and software-defined data centres
- Knowledge of HPC software stacks including MPI, CUDA, compilers, and scientific libraries
- Familiarity with containerisation and reproducible workload environments
- Experience working within large, complex, or multi-national organisations
- Ability to influence technical direction and engage with cross-functional stakeholders
Must have:
- Proven experience designing and architecting large-scale HPC systems
- Strong expertise across compute, storage, and high-performance networking
- Hands-on experience with HPC cluster environments and infrastructure components
- Experience with performance optimisation, benchmarking, and capacity planning
- Ability to provide technical leadership and define architectural standards
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain high-level security clearance
