Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Underwater Systems and Operations Delivery Team at Dstl. You will apply research to real world problems, develop and implement scientific based solutions in the underwater battlefield for UK defence and our international partners.

This is a dynamic and fast-paced role, often requiring responses to time-critical and high-priority requests. Success in the role will depend on your ability to communicate complex technical information clearly, manage competing priorities and remain calm and effective under pressure.

Job Description

In this role you will join a team at the forefront of underwater acoustics to investigate and develop new sonar algorithms and capabilities for contact detection, classification and localisation. You will work autonomously and within teams to provide expert advice to MOD customers and drive technological advances in the Royal Navy.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A degree in one of the following relevant disciplines:
    • Mathematics / Physics / Acoustics
  • A strong understanding of mathematics and/or physics particularly signal processing.
  • Programming skills in one or more scientific languages.
  • A strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.

Important Information

Our work in defence, security and intelligence requires our employees to be UK Nationals who are able to gain a high level of security clearance to undertake the projects we are involved in to protect us from security threats. For this reason, only UK Nationals will be able to apply for this role.
