High Voltage Commissioning Engineer
Location: Nationwide
Position Type: Full-time | Competitive Salary (Based on Experience)
We’re a small but fast-growing company based in South Wales working on exciting high voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to join our close-knit, supportive team.
About the Role
As a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in the testing and commissioning of electrical systems from 11kV up to 132kV. You will work on a range of grid connections, substations, renewable energy projects, and industrial installations.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and execution of commissioning plans and procedures
- Functional testing of HV equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and SCADA systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Site documentation and reporting
- Liaising with clients, DNOs, ICPs, and project managers

Essential Qualifications & Certifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or demonstrable experience working under an SAP on HV networks
- G99/G59 testing and commissioning knowledge
- National Grid Person/BESC certification (or willingness to obtain)
- ECS/CSCS Card
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671) (desirable)
- First Aid at Work & Manual Handling (current or valid)
Required Experience & Expertise
- Minimum 3+ years’ hands-on experience in high voltage commissioning (11kV-132kV)
- Experience working on DNO, ICP, IDNO, or private HV networks
- Familiarity with protection relay configuration and secondary injection testing (e.g. Omicron, Megger)
- Sound knowledge of commissioning procedures, electrical safety regulations, and risk assessment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with a solution-driven approach
