Job Introduction
Ready to build your future from the ground up? Join Tarmac as a Higher Apprentice- Technical and become part of the team that’s shaping the UK’s infrastructure!
As a Higher Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience across our operations, rotating through different product areas to help you while developing the skills to support and lead within our technical teams. You’ll learn how to meet technical specifications, ensure product quality, and operate safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. You’ll also build a solid foundation in Safety, Health, and Environmental policies, preparing you for a rewarding and responsible role in our industry.
What you’ll be doing...
- Supporting the technical team in day-to-day operations across our manufacturing sites
- Rotating through different product areas to gain broad experience
- Assisting with product sampling, testing, and data tracking
- Investigating customer complaints alongside management
- Supporting Technical Managers in supervising teams and improving site performance
- Contributing to safety culture by identifying risks and promoting safe working practices
- Helping to improve quality and efficiency through fresh ideas and continuous improvement
Life on site! You will work both inside and outside, sometimes in a dusty or confined environment. However, your health and safety are our number one priority and full protective clothing is provided. Your colleagues are also there to help and look out for you, as safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Your Development

Qualification: Foundation Degree in Mineral Products Technology through the University of Derby.
You’ll also take part in our Core Skills Development Programme, designed to build your business knowledge, strengthen your core skills, and connect you with other apprentices and graduates across the business.
What we’re looking for...
Essential
- At least 18 years old before the start date
- Five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A–C / 9–4, including English and Maths
Desirable
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Resilience and a proactive attitude
- A hands-on approach and interest in operational work
- Passion for working safely and being part of a team
- Attention to detail and an analytical mindset
- Enthusiasm for starting a career in the building materials industry
