Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Location: Closeburn House School, Dumfriesshire, DG3 5HP
Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday–Friday |
Salary: £24,876 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: July 2026

At Closeburn House School, we're looking for an enthusiastic and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys taking the lead, supporting high-quality teaching and helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning.
As a HLTA, you'll play a key role in school life, leading learning activities, delivering targeted interventions and working closely with teachers to help every pupil achieve their full potential. You'll have the opportunity to use your creativity, initiative and expertise to inspire confidence, promote independence and celebrate every success—no matter how big or small.

What you will be doing
- Deliver engaging learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes under the guidance of a teacher.
- Support teachers with planning, preparing and adapting lessons to meet individual pupil needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy and other curriculum areas to accelerate pupil progress.
- Monitor, assess and record pupil achievement, providing feedback to support future learning.
- Help create positive, inclusive learning environments where pupils feel confident, supported and motivated.
- Mentor and support Teaching Assistants, promoting high standards and collaborative working.
- Prepare and organise learning resources, classroom environments and teaching materials.
- Support educational visits, enrichment activities and the wider life of the school.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Holds SCQF Level 6 (or equivalent).
- Is passionate about helping children and young people achieve their full potential.
- Has a strong understanding of teaching and learning and can confidently lead learning activities.
- Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
- Is organised, proactive and able to adapt to the changing needs of the school.
- Communicates effectively and works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Holds a Full UK Driving Licence.
