Higher Level Teaching Assistant / HLTA
An excellent opportunity for a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school team, supporting pupils across whole-class teaching, small-group learning and one-to-one activities in an inclusive, pupil-focused environment.

SALARY: £27,779 FTE / £20,458 Actual Annual Salary + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire (SO30)
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent (term time only)
WORKING HOURS: 32.5 hours per week, 8.30am - 3.30pm Monday to Friday, term time only, 38 weeks
JOB OVERVIEW
The organisation is looking for an adaptable and positive Higher Level Teaching Assistant who can support learning across the school, working with whole classes, small groups and individual pupils.
As the Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work collaboratively with teaching staff to support lesson planning, prepare learning resources, supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absence and help pupils become confident, independent learners.
This is a varied role where you will contribute to a supportive, inclusive learning environment, help raise standards of achievement and support pupils welfare, progress and participation in school life.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Higher Level Teaching Assistant will include:
- Learning Support: Support pupils across whole-class, small-group and one-to-one learning activities
- Class Cover: Teach whole classes within an agreed supervision system and pre-determined lesson framework during short-term teacher absence
- Lesson Planning: Work with teachers through the planning cycle, including preparing, evaluating and adjusting lessons and learning activities
- Resource Preparation: Develop and prepare resources for learning activities in line with lesson plans and pupil needs
- Pupil Progress: Assess pupil responses to learning tasks, monitor participation and provide constructive feedback on progress and achievement
- Inclusion Support: Promote equal access to learning and support the inclusion of pupils, including those with specific needs
- Behaviour Management: Use behaviour management strategies in line with school policies to support a purposeful learning environment
- Pastoral Support: Provide support for pupils welfare, self-esteem, independence and pastoral needs
- Parent and Carer Links: Build constructive relationships with parents and carers, sharing appropriate information with sensitivity and confidentiality
- Safeguarding: Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and school policy requirements at all times

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- HLTA qualification or equivalent
- Relevant and recent experience of working within a school setting
- Positive attitude with the ability to take on new challenges
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working across classes, groups and individual pupil support
- Good understanding of safeguarding
- Professional approach with integrity and confidentiality
- Good team player with the ability to work independently when required
- Ability to support inclusive learning and encourage pupil confidence, progress and independence
