The Job
Coal Clough Academy wishes to appoint a hardworking, enthusiastic, and committed Higher level Teaching Assistant on a full-time permanent contract. If you are experienced, enthusiastic, open to new ideas, and have a flexible 'can do' approach, we would welcome an application from you.
What does this job do?
To work under the direction of the class teacher, or the TA leading the class in the short-term absence of the class teacher, to implement planning and assessment and work with individual pupils or small groups in order to secure high levels of accelerated pupil progress.
- To support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, promoting the inclusion of all pupils by developing their communication skills, supporting them to manage their behaviour, developing independence and social skills, and to take responsibility for monitoring/reporting on the impact of class-based interventions.
- To provide supervision, guidance, and learning opportunities across non-lesson-based activities, including visits, offsite provision, and outdoor education activities as required.
What are the job requirements?
- Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities for individuals or small groups of students in line with the current whole-school curriculum.
- Have a good understanding of core subjects at KS3 and KS4 levels (functional skills and GCSE).
- Monitor pupils and assess, record, and report on pupils' achievement, progress, and development to Middle Leaders, the SENCo, and parents/carers.
- Accurately document progress relating to attainment, targets, and attendance through completion of Personalised Intervention Plans (PIPs) and in line with school procedures.
- Support the development of pupils' reading and literacy skills.
- Have a good understanding of SEND needs and strategies to support pupils' learning.
- Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies.
- Always support social communication skills.
- Support the development of pupils' independent learning and independence skills.
- Contribute to pupil reports and participate in reviews of pupil progress.
- Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
- Use behaviour management strategies effectively and in line with the school's policy and procedures.

About Coal Clough Academy
Coal Clough Academy is an 11-16 Alternative Provision for young people, many of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.
We are making exciting and positive changes to our school and are very proud of the provision we offer. At Key Stage 3, the focus is on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain 5 GCSEs to ensure a successful transition to college, training, or employment.
Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and can receive the extra support they require. Students are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs. In addition to the core curriculum, we provide rich and varied curriculum opportunities ranging from vocational courses, academic programmes, and programmes that support pupils' personal and social development. Many of the young people who attend Coal Clough Academy arrive here at a difficult period in their lives. We aim to ensure that we give them the necessary support to improve their confidence, self-esteem, and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives.
