We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled physiotherapist with an interest and passion for paediatric respiratory management and long-term ventilation to join the paediatric physiotherapy service.

The acute children’s therapy team is a dynamic team made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists and play specialists. This role is embedded within the Long-Term Ventilation and Sleep Service at The Royal London tertiary level respiratory management for the children across North-east London and the surrounding area.

The team sit in the children’s division and provides clinical care across all acute in-patient areas from critical care, wards, day case and outpatients.

You will provide specialist assessments and management of children and young people. You will have shared responsibility for respiratory physiotherapy input for our children and young people with chronic respiratory needs and the lead physiotherapist in the LTV Service.

This physiotherapist will act as an expert resource in paediatric long-term ventilation (LTV) support for children and young people, working autonomously across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.

  • They will work closely with the wider Paediatric Physiotherapy team, Clinical Nurse Specialists and the Paediatric Respiratory Consultants.
  • They will take a lead role in the advanced assessment of neonatal and paediatric patients on the LTV pathway.
  • They will act as a regional key worker to support the development of patient specific ventilation and airway clearance plans, along with other members of the MDT.

They will provide a highly specialist role in multidisciplinary LTV respiratory clinics, and will manage an outpatient physiotherapy caseload. They will provide an advisory and liaison service to patients, families/carers, physiotherapy colleagues and other healthcare professionals including GPs and consultants within the North East London and wider region. Specialist input will be provided for children on Long Term Ventilation cross site where required, including local DGHs.

They will be expected to work closely with the Children’s Physiotherapy Lead and the other band 7’s within the Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy team to provide expert management. They will provide cross cover to other Respiratory Physiotherapy specialties, as per the needs of the service, including weekend working and on calls.
