Main duties of the job
Are you an experienced pharmacist with a passion for digital innovation and improving patient care through technology?
We are looking for a Highly Specialist Clinical Informatics Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Informatics team and play a key role in the development, optimisation, and governance of our Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) systems. This exciting role combines advanced clinical pharmacy practice with informatics expertise, helping to shape the future of digital medicines management across the Trust.
As a senior member of the Pharmacy Informatics team, you will lead and support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of electronic prescribing solutions that enhance patient safety, improve clinical outcomes, and support efficient healthcare delivery. You will work closely with pharmacists, clinicians, nursing teams, operational services, Digital colleagues, and system suppliers to ensure our digital medicines systems meet the evolving needs of patients and staff.
The post makes a significant contribution to the Trust's digital transformation agenda by supporting the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines through innovative technology solutions. You will influence strategic developments in medicines optimisation, electronic prescribing, data quality, clinical decision support, and medicines governance, helping to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
Reporting to the Informatics Lead Pharmacist, you will work collaboratively across Pharmacy, Digital, and Clinical Services and will provide leadership, expert advice, and specialist support on medicines informatics. The role also includes line management responsibilities and the opportunity to contribute to major Trust-wide digital programmes and service improvements.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the pharmacy configuration, development, testing, and optimisation of the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system, ensuring it supports safe and effective patient care.
- Provide specialist clinical informatics expertise to multidisciplinary teams, translating clinical requirements into digital solutions that improve medicines management, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with Pharmacy, Digital Services, clinicians, and system suppliers to design, implement, and evaluate system enhancements, ensuring digital medicines systems remain aligned with best practice and organisational priorities.
- Support the governance, quality, and continuous improvement of medicines-related digital systems through incident investigation, data quality monitoring, user training, and the development of clinical decision support tools.
The Ideal Candidate Will Be Able To Demonstrate
- Registration as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), together with significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience, including experience within medicines optimisation and digital systems.
- Extensive knowledge of electronic prescribing, clinical informatics, medicines governance, and the application of technology to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes.
- Experience of leading or supporting digital transformation projects, including system implementation, configuration, testing, stakeholder engagement, and change management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively across professional and organisational boundaries and influence service improvement.

Additional Information
- The post holder may be required to participate in out-of-hours support arrangements and system implementation activities where service needs require.
- The role is based across Trust sites and applicants must be able to travel between locations as required.
- The post includes line management responsibilities and requires the ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff within the Pharmacy Informatics team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent level of experience
- General Pharmaceutical Council registration as a practising pharmacist
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy practice
Desirable criteria
- MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
- Management qualification or equivalent experience
- Independent Prescribing qualification.
- Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 2 or Mastery competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients
- Leadership qualification or experience
- Project Management training or qualification
