The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 physiotherapist to join our dynamic paediatric musculoskeletal physiotherapy team within the Women and Children’s directorate.

We are looking for a Physiotherapist with relevant clinical paediatric musculoskeletal experience to join our dynamic team. This post will provide opportunities to work within a wide variety of areas within a supportive team and take the lead on a specialist clinical area. This post is unique in that the caseload is varied and diverse including in patients, out patients and specialist clinics all within the field of paediatric musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Within the team we also input into 3 national services – burns, obstetric brachial plexus palsy and haemophilia. As a highly specialist paediatric physiotherapist this job will involve supervising and supporting less experienced members of the team. Our msk team are passionate about early intervention and service improvement and work closely with our colleagues in each of the specialities.

There is also a strong focus on Research and Development/Quality improvement within the RHC Physiotherapy Service and support applications for poster presentations and speaking at external conferences.

Our main inpatient caseload consists of trauma and elective orthopaedics and burns. We are also a major trauma centre for paediatrics.

Outpatient caseload covers referrals from GP’s, Emergency Department, burns and plastics, rheumatology, haemophilia, obstetric brachial plexus palsy, chronic pain and orthopaedics.

You will also have the opportunity to cover a variety of clinics including fracture clinic, plastics trauma, burns management, haemophilia, obstetric brachial plexus palsy, acute knee clinic and rheumatology.

This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland check.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location based in Royal Hospital for Children
• Permanent Contract
• Part-time Position (34 hours per week)
• Shift pattern for this post are evening on-call, weekend and public duties will be required – full training and support will be provided.
• Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the physiotherapy management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management and to support more junior staff to do likewise.
• To demonstrate in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge of clinical governance issues including risk management, evidence based practice, audit and clinical research methodology and to incorporate this into clinical practice.
• To provide clinical leadership for more junior Physiotherapists and Support Workers.
• To be competent in carrying out evening and weekend emergency on-call duties outwith your own specialist area.
• To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients using investigative and analytical skills to form accurate diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range of highly complex conditions. To formulate individualised treatment plans using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care and to develop comprehensive discharge plans.
• To have a good working knowledge of various musculoskeletal conditions.
• To accept clinical responsibility for musculoskeletal patients within the specialty and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to service standards and clinical priorities.
• To comply with all Division policies and procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act, including adherence to Universal precautions and Infection Control measures and to ensure that designated staff are aware of their responsibilities.
• To demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply to work situation.
• To co-ordinate service delivery for designated area.
• To undertake non-clinical tasks as delegated by Head of Service or Clinical Physiotherapy Manager.
