Clinical or Counselling Psychologist/Highly Specialist Psychological Therapist Posts

Are you an experienced psychological professional who wants to make a meaningful difference for people with complex mental health needs? We are recruiting to three Band 8a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist/Highly Specialist Psychological Therapist posts within our Specialist Mental Health Teams. These are exciting opportunities to bring your specialist expertise to multidisciplinary teams and contribute to accessible and evidence-based psychological interventions and therapy with specific reference to those specified within the Psychological Therapies for Severe Mental Health Problems paper. The posts are based in HMR, Oldham, and Stockport.

Locations and Working Time

  • Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) — 0.6 WTE (with potential to increase in WTE)
  • Oldham — 0.5 WTE
  • Stockport — 0.8 WTE

Job Requirements

We are looking for colleagues with the following expertise:

  • HMR: Expertise in therapeutic approaches that support people with complex emotional and relational needs.
  • Oldham: Experience of working with complex trauma is essential, and applicants trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) would be particularly welcome.
  • Stockport: Specialist training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), or a willingness to undertake DBT training.

We will also consider applications from candidates seeking a Band 7-to-8a preceptorship. Where there is a competitive field, preference may be given to applicants who already have the relevant specialist training and experience.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
