Highway Engineer - Location Kingston, Sutton
19.08.2026
Kingston Council have an exciting opportunity for a Highway Engineer to take an instrumental role within a progressive local authority delivering meaningful, highway schemes from concept to completion. You’ll be at the heart of the full project lifecycle – from early scoping and optioneering through detailed design, procurement and hands-on construction site management – with real influence. Over outcomes on the ground. Working in a supportive environment, you’ll be part of a growing in-house design team and a wider, highly collaborative highways service that brings together client, commissioning, reactive, permitting and inspection teams.
You will be part of a team managing the design and delivery of Highways and Transport projects and services. You will need to work with colleagues to manage scheme budgets and may need to oversee and supervise junior team members, consultants, contractors and sub-contractors. Engineer roles are across a range of teams in the service, common competencies are required, as well as team-specific competencies for certain roles.

Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
