Job Title: Highways Electrician - Testing

Base Location: Fareham

Salary: From £31,094 to £34,111.34/annum depending on skills and experience and working hours - Time Incentive Management (TIM) Bonus Scheme, plus a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent - Full Time; Core hours are Monday to Friday 07:30 -15:30 with flexibility around start and finish times required due to the nature of the works. Out of Hours standby is also a requirement of the role, which is on a rota basis.

What will I be doing in this role?

This team is responsible for the ongoing streetlighting works in Hampshire and Southampton as part of the South Coast PFI.

In a typical day, you could expect to be;

  • Carrying out electrical testing of private network street lighting cable systems in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
  • Undertaking fault finding and diagnosis on private cable networks, identifying defects and recommending or carrying out appropriate remedial works.
  • Recording and reporting test results accurately, ensuring all documentation is completed and maintained to the required standard.
  • Assessing the condition of underground cable infrastructure and associated electrical equipment to support safe and reliable operation.
  • Working closely with operational teams to plan and deliver testing programmes with minimal disruption to the public.
  • Operating a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP) where required.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations, Health & Safety legislation, and company safe systems of work.
  • Providing a high standard of customer service whilst representing the business professionally on site.
  • Participating in the emergency standby rota where required to respond to electrical faults and emergency call-outs outside normal working hours.

What do I need to be successful in the role?

  • A recognised electrical qualification, such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
  • Experience of carrying out electrical inspection, testing and fault finding on low voltage electrical systems, ideally within the highways or street lighting sector.
  • Knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and electrical testing procedures.
  • A good understanding of health and safety legislation, including the Electricity at Work Regulations and safe systems of work.
  • The ability to interpret electrical drawings, cable records and test results.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to accurately record and report testing information.
  • A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel to sites across the contract area.
  • A full UK Manual Driving Licence.
  • A positive, safety-focused attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Some of our ‘nice to haves’ are;

  • City & Guilds 2391, 2394/2395, or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification.
  • Experience working on private network or street lighting electrical distribution systems.
  • MEWP (IPAF) qualification.
  • NRSWA Operative accreditation.
  • G39 or experience working in the vicinity of live electrical equipment.

We can however support the right candidate to achieve any level of industry training/qualifications they may not have in the ‘nice to have’ list.
