Highways Technology Engineer
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Technology Engineer to join our Area 12 team.
In this role, you'll support the maintenance and repair of a wide range of roadside technology assets across the National Highways network, helping to keep roads safe, connected, and operating efficiently. You'll undertake both planned and reactive maintenance activities on technology systems including electronic signage, CCTV, traffic signals, emergency roadside telephones, and communications equipment.
The primary depot for this role is West Cowick Maintenance Compound, Goole, DN14 9ED, however, the role will involve travel across the Area 12 network as required.
The standard hours of work are 43.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working a rotating shift pattern of two weeks days and one week nights. Participation in a standby rota is also required.
You will be responsible for:
- Carrying out reactive maintenance on highways technology assets including signs, signals, CCTV, emergency roadside telephones, queue protection systems, traffic counting equipment, and weather stations.
- Undertaking planned maintenance activities in accordance with client requirements, manufacturer guidance, and British Standards.
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on highways communications and technology equipment.
- Producing accurate reports and records relating to maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Providing technical advice and support to colleagues, clients, and contractors.
- Supporting project delivery activities, including coordination with suppliers, contractors, and local authorities.
- Assisting with technology upgrades, commissioning activities, and asset improvement programmes.
- Supporting emergency response activities when required.
- Maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
- Contributing to continuous improvement and supporting the development of junior team members.

What You'll Bring
Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Relevant electrical or engineering qualification.
- Experience within highways technology or a similar engineering environment.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Strong technical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- City & Guilds 2391 Test & Inspection qualification.
