Job Title

Highways Lighting Operative

Base Location

Newcastle/North Tyneside

Salary

From £25,877 - £27,011 + Time Incentive Management (TIM) Bonus Scheme, and a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing. All PPE and work van to utilise during working hours.

Working Pattern

37 Hours per week, Permanent | Full Time – Once Fully Qualified, you can also take part in ‘On-call’ rotas which attract additional payments

Attractive working hours of Mon-Thurs 0700 – 1530hrs and Fridays 0700 – 1200hrs.

Could you be our next Highways Lighting Operative to join the team and drive this success forwards?

One of the great things about joining us as a Highway Lighting Operative is that we can take on experienced Operatives (desirable) who already hold all the relevant qualifications, as well as those who are looking to transfer from other roles that are based in Highways or in Construction.

What will I be doing in this role?

  • As a Highways Lighting Operative, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of highway lighting systems such as streetlights, traffic signs and other street furniture.
  • Changing, painting and testing of equipment to prevent any future issues.
  • Your primary goal will be to fix any faulty equipment quickly to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of lighting infrastructure to enhance visibility and road safety for drivers and pedestrians.
  • Working to strict safety guidelines and regulations

What do I need to be successful in the role?

We are looking for you to bring your previous experience working in the electrical/construction industry, we would also love you to have:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues efficiently.
  • Able to use a hand-held tablet to receive jobs and log repair reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all maintenance tasks.
  • The ability to use tools to dig and install streetlighting columns
  • A lot of this role will be working at height, so you need to be comfortable with working in a MEWP (a cherry picker) at heights that could be up to 12 Meters above ground.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights, using appropriate safety equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members and effective interaction with stakeholders and the public.
  • You must have a full UK driving licence.

Some of our ‘nice to haves’ are:

  • IPAF or PASMA certification
  • In date CSCS/ECS card
  • G39 Electrical Safety Training
  • Class 2 HGV licence would be a benefit
  • Experience in public lighting, highways maintenance, or infrastructure works
  • Knowledge on extracting information from utility drawings.
  • Installation of lighting columns and associated groundwork
