We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Area 12 team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining and improving the strategic road network, helping to keep road users safe while delivering a high-quality service for our client.

The salary is competitive (please enquire for further details). The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, with participation in standby and winter maintenance rotas as required.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll support the delivery of routine and reactive highway maintenance activities across the Area 12 network.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out routine highway maintenance activities in accordance with contract requirements
  • Undertaking safety fencing, drainage, vegetation, sign, road restraint system, and carriageway maintenance works
  • Supporting emergency response activities and making safe highway defects
  • Assisting with winter maintenance operations, including gritting and snow clearance
  • Installing, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic management as required
  • Operating plant, vehicles, and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Completing required inspections, records, and documentation accurately
  • Ensuring all works are carried out in line with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the contract
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives

We Want to Hear From You If You Have

Essential

  • Experience working within a highways, construction, utilities, civil engineering, or maintenance environment
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexibility to participate in standby, emergency call-out, and winter maintenance rotas
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

  • NHSS Sector Scheme qualifications
  • Highways Safety Passport
  • Lantra 12AB, 12C, or 12D Traffic Management qualifications
  • LGV/HGV licence
  • Experience operating plant and machinery
  • First Aid qualification
  • Street Works qualifications
