We have fantastic opportunities for permanent Highways Maintenance Operatives to join our Area 7 account based at Pytchley Depot, Kettering (NN15 6XS).

Working in partnership with National Highways, Amey maintains over 700 kilometres of roads across the East Midlands, helping to ensure that millions of people experience safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys every day.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a skilled operational team responsible for maintaining and improving some of the UK's busiest motorways and strategic road networks. With sections of the network carrying up to 180,000 vehicles per day, your work will have a direct impact on the travelling public.

The standard hours of work are 45 hours per week

Monday to Friday, rotating day and night shifts:

  • Day Shift: 7:00am - 3:00pm
  • Night Shift: 7:00pm - 5:00am

What You Will Be Doing

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability and appearance of the strategic road network. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship across all activities
  • Attending project briefings, toolbox talks and safety briefings as required
  • Driving and operating vehicles and plant equipment, completing daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance activities
  • Working safely and ensuring compliance with all health and safety requirements
  • Completing records, inspections and necessary documentation accurately
  • Installing, maintaining and removing traffic and pedestrian management systems
  • Carrying out site maintenance activities including sign cleaning, drainage works and general highway repairs
  • Undertaking litter picking and reactive maintenance works
  • Completing safety fence repairs, patching works, sign installation and repairs
  • Supporting winter maintenance operations and emergency incident response activities

We Want to Hear From You If You Have

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence with a minimum Class C HGV licence
  • Experience working outdoors in a physically demanding environment and varying weather conditions
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and teamwork
  • Good communication skills and a positive approach to problem-solving

Desirable

  • CAT and Genny training

  • Traffic Management experience

  • CSCS Card

  • Experience carrying out highway maintenance activities including:

    • Carriageway and footway patching
    • Kerbing works
    • Ironwork replacement
    • Drainage maintenance
