City of York Council Seeks a Highways Maintenance Scheduler
In this role you will be experienced in working with highway maintenance and highways assets as well as managing and delivering highways maintenance works orders and schemes with many stakeholders.
Role Overview
Working as a key member of the basic maintenance team and reporting directly to the Highways Maintenance Manager, you will be part of a dedicated team overseeing the implementation of the highway safety inspection policy and working with our operational teams in delivering both small and large scale repairs, and maintenance to the highway network.
This includes submitting Streetworks permits, Traffic Management Plans with diversions and programmes of work for:
- Active travel networks and assets
- Roads (including signage and lining)
- Footways
- Drainage
- Street Lighting
- York City Walls
Responsibilities
In doing so you will be supporting an established Highways Assets Management team set up to sustainably deliver work streams on all highways assets whilst also being supported by framework consultancies and contractors. For this you will need to work with both internal and external stakeholders, principally Highway Inspectors, Site Agents and Project Engineers

In the development of works orders programmes you will need to be highly organised and be competent with excel spreadsheets and have an aptitude to learn electronic processes like Department for Transport Street Manager and Causeway ALLOY software (Training will be provided).
Requirements
- Experience in highway maintenance and highways assets
- Ability to manage and deliver highways maintenance works orders and schemes
- Competence with excel spreadsheets
- Aptitude to learn electronic processes like Department for Transport Street Manager and Causeway ALLOY software
- Strong organizational skills

Working Arrangements
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
