Hours: 37 hours per week

4 on 4 off (07:00 - 17:00)

Contract Type: Permanent

At Totally Local Company an opportunity has arisen for a Highways Operative who possesses a professional demeanour, sound judgement and integrity to join our Highways team

General

We need experienced individuals to join our team carrying out repairs to Stockport's highways and footways, ideally you will have worked in a team, be self motivated and be proficient in the following areas

  • You'll safely carry out repairs and improvements to a variety of built environment infrastructure such as modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping including drainage repair, excavation and shoring.
  • You'll be aware of and have working knowledge and application of design drawings, specifications and civil engineering techniques.
  • You'll apply safe methods of working through the use of personal protective equipment, correct manual handling, use of small plant and equipment such as excavators, roller/breaker, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws and other highways related equipment.
  • You'll apply and abide by Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act and apply safe methods of working by to all activities.

Skills Knowledge And Expertise

  • You'll demonstrate competency in working on minor civil engineering projects in a built and operational environment
  • You'll demonstrate health and safety awareness and how it's applied to a project
  • You'll demonstrate operational record keeping including accidents, near misses, delivery notes, requisition notes and safe methods of working
  • You'll hold an NVQ Level 2 or above in Construction Operations or be able to work towards gaining the NVQ
  • You'll demonstrate working knowledge of design specifications and drawings in an operational environment
  • You'll have working knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • You'll demonstrate training and certification in the use of small plant e.g. circular cutting devices, small compaction units, pedestrian and sit on vibrating rollers and other small plant and equipment
  • You'll be customer focussed
