3 Month Contract With A local Authority

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality technical CAD support for highway and engineering design projects within the Highways Planned Delivery team. The postholder will produce accurate and consistent technical designs, interpret utilities and statutory information, and support wider data-driven activities including mapping and statistical searches. The role requires a highly capable CAD user who can work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver work to a consistently high technical standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality technical highway and engineering designs using CAD software.
  • Act as a high-level CAD user, applying strong technical knowledge and expertise to highway design and related engineering projects.
  • Prepare accurate, detailed, and consistent drawings and design documentation in accordance with relevant standards and specifications.
  • Interpret and incorporate utilities, statutory undertaker, and other relevant information into technical highway designs.
  • Review drawings, plans, surveys, and technical information to identify potential issues and ensure design accuracy.
  • Undertake mapping, data analysis, statistical searches, and other data-driven activities to support highway planning and delivery.
  • Work with engineering, planning, surveying, and other technical colleagues to develop and deliver effective design solutions.
  • Ensure all CAD outputs and technical information are produced to a high level of accuracy and consistency.
  • Manage allocated work independently, prioritising tasks and meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Identify discrepancies, design issues, or missing information and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Maintain and organise technical drawings, design data, and associated records in accordance with team procedures.
  • Support the wider Highways Planned Delivery function with technical and design-related activities as required.
  • Keep up to date with relevant CAD practices, highway design standards, technical requirements, and systems.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and self-starting approach, contributing to the continuous improvement of design processes and ways of working.

Requirements

  • Significant experience using CAD at a high level, particularly in a highway, civil engineering, or technical design environment.
  • Proven ability to produce accurate and technically detailed highway or engineering designs.
  • Strong understanding of technical highway design principles and engineering drawings.
  • Experience interpreting utilities, statutory undertaker, and other infrastructure information and translating this into technical designs.
  • Ability to work confidently with mapping systems, technical data, statistics, and other data-driven information.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with a consistent approach to technical work.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative as a CAD self-starter.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering, planning, surveying, and other professional teams.
  • Experience working within a highways, engineering, planning, surveying, or local authority environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant highway design standards, specifications, and technical requirements is desirable.

  • Location: Northleigh, Chichester
  • Hours per Week: 37.00
  • Working Arrangements: Flexible working, with a minimum of two days per week in the office
  • Payment: Bi-Weekly
