Position: Highways Site Manager

Location: Royton, Oldham

Start Date: ASAP

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £46,000 – £52,000 DOE + £4,000 car allowance + benefits

We are recruiting an experienced Highways Site Manager to oversee the delivery of a major highways and public realm improvement project in Royton Town Centre.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in highways reconstruction and public realm works, with experience delivering projects such as cycle paths, bus lanes/corridors and high-specification paving. You will be confident managing works in busy urban environments and coordinating activity around local businesses and commercial premises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day site operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to a high standard.
  • Manage and coordinate site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor progress against the programme and report on project performance.
  • Order and coordinate materials, plant and resources.
  • Maintain and update health & safety plans, risk assessments and relevant site records.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and relevant regulations.
  • Coordinate works to minimise disruption to the public, local businesses and other stakeholders.
  • Support the Contracts/Project Manager with pre-construction planning and project delivery.
  • Monitor quality, productivity and costs throughout the project.
  • Drive continuous improvement and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Site Manager within highways/civil engineering.
  • Strong experience delivering highways reconstruction and public realm projects.
  • Experience of cycle paths, bus lanes/corridors and paving would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience working in busy urban environments.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and site management procedures.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • NVQ Level 5 in Civil Engineering, Construction Site Management or a similar discipline would be advantageous.
  • Relevant CSCS/SMSTS qualifications.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience managing subcontractors and site teams.

The Project

The role will support a major highways and public realm upgrade in Royton Town Centre.

The works include the reconstruction of key highway sections, improvements to traffic flow and network resilience, dedicated cycle lanes and paths, improvements to the bus corridor, and high-specification paving and public realm works.
