Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: £38,000 – £43,500 + overtime
Hours: 40 per week
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
INFRATEC is a specialist highways technology delivery company supporting the UK strategic road network. We install, commission and maintain intelligent transport systems (ITS), roadside technology and tunnel technology assets across motorway and urban infrastructure.
We are seeking a Highways Technology Engineer to join our field delivery team working on national projects.
This role is ideal for engineers with experience in highways technology, ITS, electrical infrastructure, communications systems or roadside equipment installations.
Key Duties
- Install and commission highways technology and ITS equipment
- Maintain roadside technology and communications systems
- Perform fault finding and technical investigations
- Conduct site surveys and produce technical reports
- Work to National Highways standards and specifications
- Carry out on-site risk assessments
- Supervise supporting contractors where required
- Support apprentice and junior engineers

Required Experience
- Electrical, electronics or communications engineering background
- Experience delivering infrastructure or technology installations
- Fault finding and field engineering experience
- G39 awareness or working near live electrical systems
- Strong safety awareness
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable Skills
- Highways technology or ITS experience
- Variable Message Signs (VMS), CCTV, MIDAS or signals experience
- 18th Edition electrical qualification
- ONC/HNC Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- ECS or CSCS card

Candidates do not need to meet every listed requirement. We provide structured technical training and certification support for the right candidate with relevant core experience and a strong work ethic.
Working Pattern
- UK-wide travel required
- Regular working away during the week
- Predominantly night shifts Monday–Thursday
- Friday typically used for travel home
