With over 1,000 employees and a £150m turnover, we’re growing—and now looking for a Hire Controller to play a key role in our project delivery teams.

The Role

Reporting directly to the P&T Lead, the Hire Controller’s main priority is to process requisitions and control the raising of orders for both the company’s owned plant and transport and externally hired-in plant. There are other various responsibilities associated with plant and transport. The emphasis is on providing an efficient service to the sites / projects and maintaining compliance to company procedures and standards. This role requires a close working relationship with the Transport Foreman.

What You’ll Be Doing

On a daily basis, you will:

  • Receive and process plant and transport hire requisitions (internal and external hire).
  • Obtain quotes from supply chain (external plant hire companies).
  • Review quotes and raise orders as necessary on COINS.
  • Investigate into lost and/or damaged plant. Review proposed charges.
  • Liaise with Site Manager and, if the loss is confirmed, negotiate an appropriate loss / damage charge with the supplier/plant hire company (sometimes in support of P&T Lead).
  • Assist in receiving new vehicles / assets into the fleet.
  • Create new assets on COINS.
  • Assist in arranging spare keys and storage of same.
  • Arrange installation of telematic “Tracking” system in all commercial vehicles and management / monitoring of same.
  • Undertake weekly monitoring of commercial vehicles for compliance with working/travel hours and speed limits.
  • Produce separate reports for both and issue to relevant Managers (e.g., MD’s Nominee and HR Manager).
  • Purchase Vehicle Excise Duty (“Road Tax”) for all company owned vehicles (cars and commercial vehicles).
  • Reconcile UK Fuel invoices against receipts for same, deal with any queries that may arise and escalate priority issues, e.g., use of premium fuels and/or non-preferred fuel stations, to P&T Lead.
  • General office duties and assistance to the P&T Lead and Transport Foreman as required, e.g., taking phone calls, scheduling meetings, updates to COINS, preparing ad hoc reports, etc.
  • Assist P&T Lead where required in dealing with invoice queries passed from Accounts Dept.
  • Support P&T Lead with Hired-in Plant Inspections on site.
  • Assist P&T Lead and Transport Foreman in the works scheduling on PMS for Technicians on the tablets.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • GSCE in Maths and English as a minimum.
  • 1–3 years of experience as a Hire Controller in a Plant Hire Company.

Desirable

  • Risk Assessment certification.
  • Environmental Awareness certification.
  • Experience assisting in budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder communication.
