National Lifting Solutions provides professional crane hire services in London and across the UK, supporting projects that require mobile cranes, tower cranes, crawler cranes, plant movement, and wind turbine installations. The team is CPCS accredited and brings extensive experience from diverse lifting backgrounds, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and timely project delivery. The company prepares detailed method statements, risk assessments, and lift plans for a range of equipment including cranes, hi-ab lorries, and excavators. National Lifting Solutions also offers free site surveys to assess client needs and recommend the most suitable crane solutions for each job. The organization is client-focused and responsive, encouraging direct contact for queries and project planning.

Role Description

The Hire Desk Controller is a full-time, on-site role based at our depot in Maple Cross, responsible for coordinating crane hire operations and providing frontline service to clients. Day-to-day tasks include handling incoming hire enquiries, preparing quotations, coordinating equipment availability, and scheduling cranes and related machinery for projects across the UK. The role involves liaising with clients to understand project requirements, arranging site surveys, and ensuring that method statements, risk assessments, and lift plans are correctly prepared and communicated and organizing council permits. The Hire Desk Controller will work closely with crane supervisors, operators, and the wider lifting team to optimize resource allocation and maintain high safety and service standards. Additional responsibilities include updating hire records, managing booking systems, and responding promptly to client queries via phone and email.

  • Demonstrated experience in hire desk operations, logistics coordination, or a similar scheduling and customer service role.
  • Knowledge of crane hire, lifting operations, or construction industry practices, including a basic understanding of lift plans and risk assessments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clearly and professionally with clients and internal teams.
  • Organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple bookings, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, hire booking system, and Office 365) for managing bookings and documentation.
  • Attention to detail and a safety-focused mindset, ensuring accurate information and compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work on-site in Maple Cross, contributing to a collaborative team environment and supporting operational requirements.
  • Previous experience in the lifting, plant hire, or construction sector are advantageous but not mandatory.
