Histopathology Microtomy Associate Practitioner

This opportunity is aimed at experienced Associate Practitioners with strong Histopathology microtomy experience in relation to a potential managed-service assignment within an NHS Pathology lab.

We are particularly interested in individuals who can provide regular weekday availability and support continuity of service, although applications from those with more limited availability are also welcomed.

The Role

The assignment will focus solely on microtomy. Work is anticipated to include a variety of routine Histopathology specimen types, including:

  • Routine H&E sectioning
  • Full-face sectioning
  • Multi-level sectioning
  • Gastrointestinal biopsies
  • Skin specimens
  • Other suitable paraffin blocks within the agreed assignment scope

Indicative Earnings

Indicative hourly equivalent: £25-£30 per hour (Ltd Company basis). Further details will be provided to individuals as part of the registration and onboarding process.

This is an output-based assignment, with payment linked to completed and verified work. Rates, productivity expectations and engagement terms remain subject to final contract award, SDS confirmation and agreed assignment terms.

Dedicated Microtomy Assignment

All blocks will be processed, embedded and labelled in advance, with barcode-driven cutting instructions available through the laboratory system.

Individuals will not be expected to undertake:

  • Block retrieval
  • Investigation of missing specimens
  • Staining activities
  • Archiving duties

A designated senior member of the laboratory team will be available to provide support where required.

Working Pattern

Multiple four-hour onsite sessions are anticipated each week during normal weekday laboratory operating hours.

Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Have recent Histopathology microtomy experience
  • Be competent in routine H&E and multi-level sectioning
  • Be able to work independently following local induction
  • Demonstrate strong quality standards and attention to detail
  • Follow local laboratory procedures and SOPs
  • Work within the scope of their competence and role
  • Have experience working within a Histopathology laboratory and undertaking routine microtomy activities
