About us
The UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London, one of the World's leading universities. The Institute draws together over 400 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing kinder, more effective therapies for cancer patients. In particular, it fosters links between basic cancer researchers across biomedicine and with the clinical activities of our four partner hospital trusts, known as UCL Partners (University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust), as well as the London School of Pharmacy and Cancer Research UK. The Cancer Institute includes the Cancer Research UK and UCL Cancer Trials Centre which is one of the largest cancer trials centres in the UK conducting multi-centre national and international phase III trials, feasibility studies and early phase I and II studies. Also embedded within the UCL Cancer Institute is the CRUK City of London Centre, a world class hub for cancer biotherapeutics which fosters collaboration between researchers at University College London, King's College London, Barts Cancer Institute (Queen Mary University of London), and The Francis Crick Institute. Furthermore, the Institute offers educational programmes that reflect the depth and breadth of research expertise that include BSc Cancer Biomedicine, MSci Cancer Biomedicine, iBSc Oncology, MSc Cancer and PhD studies.

About the role
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Histology Technician to join the Pathology Translational Technology Platform (TTP). As part of a small, collaborative team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality histology services to researchers across UCL, supporting projects that advance our understanding of cancer and contribute to the development of new diagnostics and therapies.

In this varied role, you will undertake tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, cryotomy, staining, slide scanning and tissue microarray construction, while contributing to laboratory operations, data management and quality assurance activities. You will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in emerging molecular pathology techniques, including immunohistochemistry, nucleic acid extraction and technologies supporting spatial transcriptomics.
This position offers excellent exposure to a diverse research community, including students, postdoctoral researchers, clinicians and scientists, making it an ideal opportunity for someone looking to build a career in biomedical sciences, histopathology or translational research.
Interviews will take place in person at the UCL Cancer Institute in London between 14th-18th September.

About you
You will hold a BSc in Biomedical Science or a related discipline and have experience working within a research laboratory environment. You will bring substantial hands-on experience in microtomy and cryotomy, alongside strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy and record-keeping.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator who enjoys working as part of a busy team, can manage competing priorities, and is motivated to provide an excellent service to researchers and facility users. You will be confident using databases and spreadsheets to manage samples and data, and eager to develop your skills across histology, molecular pathology and digital pathology technologies.
Most importantly, you will be proactive, organised and committed to supporting world-class cancer research through the delivery of a professional and reliable histology service.
