Histopathologist - Consultant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Histopathologist to join a highly regarded Cellular Pathology department in Wales.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team providing diagnostic Histopathology and Cytopathology services across a wide range of specialities. The department delivers regional specialist pathology services and is at the forefront of digital pathology, supporting flexible working and collaborative reporting.

There are excellent opportunities to develop specialist interests, contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, participate in teaching and research, and support the continued development of pathology services.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide Consultant-led Histopathology and Cytopathology services.
  • Deliver accurate diagnostic surgical pathology reporting.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
  • Provide clinical advice to multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical governance and quality improvement.
  • Participate in departmental audit and risk management activities.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff.
  • Participate in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching.
  • Support research and Continuous Professional Development.
  • Participate in the 1:12 consultant on-call rota.
  • Optional participation in the Coroner's autopsy service.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
  • GMC Specialist Registration or eligible within six months of interview.
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent.
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

  • Further relevant degree or diploma.
  • Teaching qualification or higher qualification in medical education.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary working.
  • Experience working with clinical and managerial colleagues to improve services.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
  • Evidence of initiating and completing clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Partnership working with external agencies.
  • Research experience in Histopathology or autopsy practice.
