About CTW Corporation
Our founder Bill Cummens worked for years at a Water Well Contractor but after seeing the need for a customer-based contracting service, he decided to go all-in and start up his own business in 1972. Bill grew up in Clara City, Minnesota and was childhood friends with the Thein brothers. Thein Well Company who trace their history back to 1893 helped provide initial financial assistance to Bill which is where CTW (Cummens-Theins Wells) Corporation got its name.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Bill started off with just a small pump hoist and a couple of pipe wrenches working out of his garage but quickly gained customers through his focus on customer service. Bill’s son, Tim followed in his father’s footsteps graduating from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities with a degree in civil engineering. He began working for the company in 1977 right out of high school.

Over the next few decades, CTW continued to grow throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. As one of the few well contracting companies with Professional Engineers on staff, CTW differentiated themselves by providing that same customer service with an analytical approach to solving the problems rather than treating the symptoms.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
