Location: Blackley, Greater Manchester
Contract: Temporary (Long-term)
Full Time: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Pay: £120-£140 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Expected End Date: July 2027 (end of the academic year)
Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Blackley
A specialist SEN school in Blackley is seeking an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their supportive team from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a nurturing, structured and inclusive learning environment where pupils receive personalised support to help them achieve their educational, social and emotional goals. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting classroom delivery, leading learning activities and working closely with teachers, SENCOs and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting teaching and learning across the school by delivering planned lessons, activities and interventions.
- Leading small group sessions and providing targeted 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs.
- Supporting pupils with ASC, complex needs, communication difficulties and learning disabilities.
- Working alongside class teachers to adapt learning materials and ensure accessibility for all pupils.
- Implementing EHCP targets, personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies.
- Promoting independence, confidence and positive engagement in learning.
- Supporting emotional regulation, sensory needs and positive behaviour approaches.
- Providing guidance and support to Teaching Assistants within the classroom environment.
- Monitoring pupil progress through observations, assessments and record keeping.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, families and wider support professionals.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Hold HLTA status or a Level 4 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Have previous experience working within an SEN, specialist or complex needs setting.
- Have experience supporting pupils with ASC, communication needs, learning difficulties or SEMH needs.
- Be confident delivering learning activities and supporting classroom management.
- Be calm, patient and resilient, with a nurturing approach.
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Be proactive, adaptable and committed to supporting pupils to reach their full potential.
- Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability.

Desirable
- Experience working within a specialist SEN school.
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC or other communication strategies.
- Team Teach, MAPA or similar positive handling/de-escalation training.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex learning needs and challenging behaviour.
- Understanding of EHCPs and SEN frameworks.
