Position Purpose
The Hoist Mechanic II is responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, repairing, servicing, and recalibrating control systems and lifting equipment, specifically controllers and hoists, using technical diagrams and engineering specifications to convert components into functional, tested products. This individual contributor role emphasizes precise execution, dependable output, and the ability to sign LOLER certificates, support hoist and cable testing, and mentor new employees in manufacturing and testing activities. By delivering reliable equipment on time, this role enables production teams and end users to Create Moments that Move People through seamless installations, effective lifting operations, and strong customer experiences.
Essential Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Assemble controllers, hoists, wiring harnesses, and related sub-assemblies from technical diagrams, engineering specifications, and production documentation.
- Apply advanced wiring techniques, inspection practices, and quality checks to ensure products are built accurately and consistently.
- Conduct functional testing, inspection, calibration, and load testing of hoists to confirm products meet safety, quality, and performance standards.
- Test external and internal cables and harnesses and use appropriate tools, including multi-meters and basic soldering equipment, to support manufacturing and troubleshooting activities.
- Sign LOLER certificates as required and maintain compliance with applicable inspection, safety, and documentation requirements.
- Carry out repairs, servicing, and recalibration on returned products, documenting findings and escalating issues where needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop while following all health, safety, and PPE requirements.
- Identify defects, inefficiencies, or documentation gaps; recommend process improvements; and provide build-quality feedback to Product Technicians.
- Partner with Production Management, Quality Assurance, Stores, and Continuous Improvement teams to support reliable output, streamlined production, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications/Experience
To successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the role, individuals must possess the following level of education and experience, or equivalent combination. In addition, the role requires the following certifications, knowledge, skills, and where applicable, physical requirements necessary for the position.
- Formal qualifications are not mandatory; a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Practical experience assembling and wiring control systems, hoists, lifting equipment, and related components is advantageous.
- Completion of the LEEA Foundation course and the Powered Lifting Machines diploma is required for the Hoist Technician II role.
- Must attend internal Vector and Apex training sessions.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, workshop, or production environment with established health, safety, and quality standards is preferred.
- Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including the ability to interpret and work from technical diagrams and engineering specifications.
- Knowledge of hoist, controller, cable, and wiring harness assembly and testing practices.
- Ability to use relevant tools and equipment, including multi-meters and basic soldering tools.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, PPE requirements, LOLER expectations, and quality standards such as ISO 9001.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate defects, identify documentation breaks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Production Management, Quality Assurance, Stores, Continuous Improvement, and Product Technician teams.
- Strong attention to detail, dependable output, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Physical Demands
Physical Requirements Include
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift or move 15kg.
- Must be able to carry 15kg.
- Must be able to pull or push 15kg.
Work Conditions Of The Role Are
- Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
- Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the location.
