I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The opportunity now is to sustain those strengths while continuing to raise expectations across quality, team development, occupancy and commercial performance.
- The next Home Manager will bring clarity, consistency and visible leadership to the home; developing colleagues, strengthening governance and ensuring the positive experience described by residents and relatives is reflected throughout every aspect of operational performance.
It is an opportunity for a strong leader to take responsibility for a successful home, protect its culture and standards, and provide the vision and momentum for its next chapter.
What You'll Be Doing
- You will take full leadership responsibility for Campsie View, remaining highly visible to residents, relatives and colleagues while setting a clear direction for the home.
- Quality, resident safety and strong governance will be central to your role, alongside developing and holding your leadership team accountable, retaining and growing a stable workforce, managing budgets effectively, maintaining and increasing occupancy, and creating a culture where colleagues understand both the standards expected of them and the part they play in achieving them.
- You'll also build trusted relationships with the Care Inspectorate, families, healthcare professionals, commissioners, community partners and the wider Alor Healthcare team.
What You'll Bring
- We are looking for a Home Manager who has experience in this capacity.
- You'll have experience of leading a home of at least 50 beds, ideally providing nursing, residential and dementia care, together with a strong regulatory track record. Experience of sustaining Care Inspectorate grades of 4 and 5 would be particularly valuable.
- You'll combine excellent operational skills with commercial awareness, sound budget management and strong people leadership.
- You'll be able to demonstrate how you have developed and retained teams, strengthened culture, built positive stakeholder relationships and used data to make informed decisions about quality, occupancy and performance.
- Above all, you'll be a visible, compassionate and values-driven leader with the integrity, emotional intelligence and credibility to engage a successful team and inspire continuous improvement.
