Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals facing homelessness and domestic abuse? West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and motivated Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer - Domestic Abuse to join our Housing Service team.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the prevention and relief of homelessness while working in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The Role

As a Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer - Domestic Abuse, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality advice, information, and support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse and homelessness.
  • Conducting thorough assessments of needs and risks, ensuring appropriate interventions are put in place.
  • Working collaboratively with external agencies and organisations to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  • Implementing effective homelessness prevention strategies to minimise the risk of individuals falling into homelessness.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and maintaining accurate case records.

This role is a 12-month fixed-term position from the start date – Funding Limited project.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Knowledge and understanding of homelessness legislation, particularly in relation to domestic abuse.
  • Experience in providing advice, support, and advocacy to individuals facing homelessness and domestic abuse.
  • Strong assessment and intervention skills, with the ability to identify and address the needs of vulnerable individuals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Organised and able to manage a caseload effectively, ensuring timely interventions and accurate record-keeping.

You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 29 days per annum (plus public holidays), rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years’ service.
