An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Homelessness Prevention – PRS Sustainment Team supporting residents of Oxford to sustain their tenancies.
The PRS Sustainment team are part of the Homelessness Prevention Team in the Housing Needs Department at Oxford City Council. They are responsible alongside the other homelessness prevention teams for duties placed on local authorities to prevent homelessness in accordance with Housing Act 1996 Part 7 (as amended). The team works with certain clients to ensure that the client receives support to prevent homelessness.
They work with clients housed in our PRS access schemes to help sustain their tenancy, assess needs due to issues with the affordability of a tenancy and other general sustainment queries. The team prides itself on its culture; where both management and colleagues are supportive, personal development is valued, and staff are empowered to challenge the status quo.
Role purpose
- To be an effective member of the Sustainment and Support, Private Rented Sector Tenancy Sustainment or Early Intervention Teams, as part of the broader Homelessness Prevention Team, as well as working collaboratively with colleagues across the department to support the objectives of the Housing Needs team; homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing and excellent customer outcomes.

To play a vital role in one of the following teams:
- Sustainment and Support Team – taking responsibility for providing a proactive tenancy sustainment service for OCC tenants and facilitating rapid move on from Temporary accommodation.
- Early Intervention – working as part of a team providing the first point of access for customers at risk of homelessness, triaging customers’ needs, making proactive interventions, giving targeted early homelessness prevention advice and support including for Duty to Refer advice cases and “pre-56 days” prevention work. This team includes Welfare Reform, Discretionary Housing Payment, Domestic Abuse support services and the employment advice service
- Private Rented Sector Tenancy Sustainment - working as part of a team responsible for tenancy sustainment services across the PRS sector, including PRS schemes run by OCC, and two fixed term posts delivering the Landlord mediation service

Staff will be assigned to work areas at appointment, including:
- Council Tenancy Sustainment
- Temporary Accommodation move on and support
- Early Intervention
- Private Rented Sector tenancy sustainment
But providing flexible support and resilience across these other work areas as required.
