Company Description
The Buckinghamshire Federation of Women’s Institutes (Bucks Federation of WIs) was formed in 1920 and now supports 89 WIs, including one virtual WI, with around 3,300 members across the county. The Federation provides a strong, community-focused network offering educational, social, and recreational opportunities. Sub-committees organize a wide range of events, from cultural visits and sporting activities to craft workshops and discussions on current affairs. The Federation promotes friendship, personal development, and active engagement in local and wider issues. Applicants will be joining an established organization with a long history of volunteer-led community involvement.
Role Description
The Hon. Treasurer is a part-time, hybrid role on the Board of Trustees. The HQ is in Aylesbury. The Hon. Treasurer takes day-to-day responsibility for the financial management and integrity of the Bucks Federation of WIs CIO. Day-to-day tasks include:

The role involves:
- Preparing budgets, financial reports, and forecasts for the Board and relevant committees
- Ensuring timely payment of invoices and expenses
- Overseeing compliance with financial policies, charity regulations, and reporting requirements, including annual accounts and audits
- Advising on financial implications of planned activities
- Supporting committees with budget planning
- Presenting clear financial information at meetings
Qualifications
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and financial reporting
- Experience with bookkeeping, accounting software (Sage), and accurate record-keeping in a charity or not-for-profit setting
- Knowledge of charity finance regulations, governance, and compliance requirements, or willingness to learn
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-specialists
- Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, staff, and committee members, demonstrating integrity and discretion
- Relevant qualification or training in finance, accounting, or business is desirable; experience in a treasurer role or similar position is an advantage
