Role Description
The Horticultural Operations Lead is a full-time, on-site role based at Bernhard’s Nurseries in Bourton On Dunsmore. The role involves overseeing daily nursery operations, including supervising plant production, coordinating planting schedules, and monitoring plant health and quality standards. The Horticultural Operations Lead will organize work for horticultural teams, ensure safe and efficient use of equipment, and maintain accurate records of stock, orders, and growing conditions. This position also supports continuous improvement of cultivation practices, liaises with sales and logistics to meet client timelines, and helps resolve operational issues promptly. The role requires a hands-on approach, strong leadership on the nursery floor, and consistent collaboration with colleagues to deliver reliable, high-quality service.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated horticultural expertise, including practical experience in plant production, cultivation techniques, and plant health monitoring.
- Experience leading or supervising teams in an operational, agricultural, or horticultural setting, with the ability to coordinate daily tasks and support staff development.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, including managing schedules, stock levels, and workflow to meet order deadlines and quality standards.
- Ability to work safely with nursery equipment and tools, with knowledge of health and safety practices relevant to a horticultural environment.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, liaising with clients or suppliers, and providing clear instructions to team members.
- Proficiency with basic IT tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets, stock or order management systems) to maintain records and support operational reporting.
- Relevant horticultural or agricultural qualifications (e.g., diploma, certificate, or degree) or equivalent practical experience in a nursery or similar environment.
- Capacity for physically active, outdoor work across varying weather conditions and a commitment to maintaining high standards of plant quality and service.
