What You'll Do
As a hospice aide, you will provide compassionate, hands-on care that helps patients remain comfortable and maintain dignity throughout their end-of-life journey.
You will:
- Assist with personal care, mobility, and activities of daily living
- Support nutrition, including simple meal preparation and feeding
- Provide light homemaking support related to the patient’s care
- Help patients maintain independence and participate in activities meaningful to them
- Observe and report changes in a patient’s condition to the registered nurse
Working alongside your team, you will give your best each day in service of our core commitment: Delivering compassionate, personalized care with heartfelt empathy, honoring the wishes of each patient who entrusts VITAS with their end-of-life journey.
Where You'll Work
You will spend most of your time caring for hospice patients wherever they call home, whether that means a private residence or an assisted living/skilled nursing facility.

You will travel within your assigned service area and provide care under the supervision of a registered nurse as part of an interdisciplinary hospice team.
Requirements
- Approved hospice aide, home health aide, or nurse aide training and competency
- Ability to travel as required by the role
- One year of direct patient care experience preferred
Certification requirements vary by state:
- AL: CNA
- CA: CHHA
- CT: Homemaker-Home Health Aide
- DC, DE, FL, GA, PA, TX, VA, WI: CNA, HHA or HA
- IL: HHA or NA
- KS, MO: Home Health Aide
- OH: State Tested Nurse Aide
- NJ: Homemaker-Home Health Aide
